Ulysses, did you knock on my door was created through collaboration between artist Yiyi Wei and clinical psychologist Aya Cheaito who was researching the relationship between PTSD and meditation. The artwork uses 'stressed glass' as a metaphor, which is a phenomenon created when different kinds of glass melt together, then undergoes expansion and shrinkage at different rate. The glass words 'I am absent' appears to be transparent under regular settings, yet the tension (stress) within the glass manifests itself as rainbow pattern under polarized film. The sculpture is installed at floor level where viewers are required to position themselves in a meditation posture in order to let the glass piece reveal its stress patterns through the polarized film.
